How We Do The Work

4 Types of Homelessness We Address

We conduct comprehensive, case-by-case assessments of the homeless population in the King County area to understand specific needs, challenges, and barriers to accessing services.

A

Mental Illness & Disability

Individuals who could not access adequate mental health support and found themselves on the street. These individuals receive a clinical assessment and are connected with specialized disability-focused organizations.

Our Solution Clinical assessment, referral to disability-care partners, safe shelter, and ongoing mental health support.
B

Chronic Illness & No Income

Individuals with chronic illnesses (e.g. cancer) who lost their ability to work, lost income, and consequently lost housing. A bridge system and immediate resources help them stabilize while receiving care and training.

Our Solution Bridge support, immediate rehabilitation, and workforce training to return to independent life.
C

Drug & Substance Addiction

Individuals whose chronic drug addiction led to loss of housing. They need lasting shelter and specialized rehabilitation support. Post-rehab, workforce training enables them to contribute meaningfully to society.

Our Solution Lasting shelter, addiction rehabilitation program, then job training and workforce re-entry.
D

Youth & Young Adult Homelessness

Young people (up to 26) who lost parents at a young age, have parents who are incarcerated, or ran away from home due to depression and family difficulties. They need specialized youth-focused support to rebuild their futures.

Our Solution Lasting shelter, rehabilitation, meals, and youth-specific training for long-term housing stability.
The Challenge

Understanding the Issue of Homelessness

Homelessness is a pressing issue affecting individuals and families across the United States. It is a complex problem rooted in poverty, lack of affordable housing, mental health issues, and substance abuse.

"Without stable shelter, homeless individuals face exposure to harsh weather conditions, limited access to basic necessities, and increased vulnerability to violence and exploitation — especially females."

Poverty and income inequality
Lack of affordable housing
Mental health crises without support

Why Shelter Matters

The Importance of Providing a Safe Haven

Having a safe and secure place to sleep not only protects individuals from the dangers of the streets, but offers them hope and a chance to rebuild their lives. Shelter is the first step towards everything else.

Safety & Protection Immediate refuge from the dangers of street life, extreme weather, and exploitation.
Healthcare Access A stable address enables access to medical care, mental health services, and social programs.
Employment Opportunities With a stable address and daily routine, individuals can pursue job training and employment.
Personal Growth & Dignity Stable housing fosters a sense of belonging, self-worth, and motivation for lasting change.
"This program not only offers a safe haven during a crisis but also paves the way for long-term housing solutions. Safe Community Foundation has emerged as a long-term creative solution to address the immediate needs of shelter with full capacity of services for homeless individuals."

Advocating for Systemic Change

Working to address the root causes of homelessness through advocacy, community outreach, and active collaboration with other organizations and government agencies to create lasting policy change.

Case-by-Case Individualized Care

Every individual we serve receives a comprehensive individual assessment. We understand that homelessness has different causes, and our solutions are tailored to each person's specific situation and needs.
